Could You Go ZERO Carb?

Another experiment!  This one will take me one step further into the low carb zone.  I'm going to try out "Zero Carb" for thirty days.  If you've read some of my previous blogs on how to control your autoimmune disease with diet, you'll know I'm fully behind the ketogenic lifestyle.  That's high fat, low carbohydrate, moderate protein.  Zero carb is much higher in protein and even lower in carbs than what I've been doing for more than three years.

Thirty days of “Zero Carb”, which is a bit of a misnomer by the way.  If you Google ‘zero carb’ and read the different sites, you’ll likely find that they all allow just a bit of carbohydrate.  There are a few that are quite religious about it and eat only meat and drink water though!  Because of my own personality, I have a bit of a problem being that extreme about anything at all.  Likely, it was named ‘Zero Carb’ because it more accurately describes what they’re trying to do, which is to survive (and thrive) on nothing but animal products.  Calling it the ‘Carnivore Diet’ might be a bit of a turn-off to many (said with a smirk).  You can check out this site to get a good description of the what’s and why’s.  Personally, I’m giving it a go to test the following:

1.      Will my multiple sclerosis symptoms improve even more than on just low carb?

2.      Will my weight, which has been stable (stuck) for two years be effected at all, either up or down?

3.      Will my energy and cognitive function improve as promised by many proponents?

4.      Will my digestive issued (GERD) clear up?

That’s pretty much it!  Just those four things, but extremely important to my existence.  Worth the deprivations.

So what will I be deprived of for the next month?  Not a great deal really.  When I followed the cancer protocols of ketogenics my diet was very similar.  The big differences that will make me sad…….NO alcohol and NO sweetener of ANY kind.  I truly love my wine and sugar-free chocolate mousse.  I have a glass and serving almost daily…..but one of the points of zero carb is to beat the sweet addiction.  My mouth loves sweet!  I mean LOVES IT!  Very heavy sighhhhhh.  What doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger.  I GUESS I won’t die without my two favorite things to eat and drink.  Maybe, but I doubt it.

You can check out my daily progress (struggles) by joining my group on Facebook.  I generally post a whole lot of sugar-free recipes on that page, but maybe not for the next month.  June 2017 will contain a lot of BBQ and meat dishes, as well as a daily log of what it’s like to go ‘Zero Carb’.  Wish me luck all!

Plenty of meat to eat on Zero Carb!
